The suspect, now 21, pleaded guilty last week, to both charges. As part of the guilty plea, prosecutors agreed not to pursue a prison sentence bigger than three years for both charges -- of hacking and possession of child pornography.
The 21-year-old was charged with the hacking crimes and for possessing child pornography. As part of a plea agreement, Hernandez agreed to pay nearly $260,000 to Nintendo. Prosecutors are recommending that the hacker, who is set to be sentenced in April, serves three years in prison.
A search of his hard drives in 2019 showed that Hernandez was also guilty of storing child pornography and abuse videos, to which he admitted in court. Subsequently, he was registered as a sex offender and given a seven-year supervised release.
On Friday, 21-year old Ryan Hernandez from Palmdale, California, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Seattle to federal crimes related to his computer hacking scheme and his possession of child pornography found on his digital devices.

Nintendo sought enforcement action against a hacker that for several years had infiltrated Nintendo's internal database by various means including phishing to obtain plans for games and hardware for upcoming shows like E3. This was leaked to the Internet, impacting how Nintendo's own announcements were received. Though the person was a minor when Nintendo brought the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to investigate, and had been warned by the FBI to desist, the person continued over 2018 and 2019 as an adult, posting taunts on social media. The perpetrator was arrested in July 2019, and the FBI found documents confirming the hacks, many unauthorized game files, and child pornography, leading to the perpetrator's admission of guilt for all crimes in January 2020 and was sentenced to three years in prison.[296][297] Similarly, Nintendo alongside The Pokémon Company spent significant time to identify who had leaked information about Pokémon Sword and Shield several weeks before its planned Nintendo Directs, ultimately tracing the leaks back to a Portugal game journalist who leaked the information from official review copies of the game and subsequently severed ties with the publication.[298] 2ff7e9595c
